CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Exempt – AmeriCorps VISTA

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Volunteer Services; VITA Program Director

Purpose

To assist United Way of Palm Beach County’s Volunteer Services by increasing community awareness and assisting individuals through volunteerism by connecting people with opportunities to serve, build capacity for effective local volunteering, promote volunteering and participating in strategic initiatives.

AmeriCorps VISTA assignments are for a term of one year.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age, eligible to work in the U.S., and will receive a living allowance, end-of-service stipend or education award, health coverage, training and childcare assistance if eligible.  More information is available at https://my.americorps.gov/mp/login.do

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a community asset mapping and build local partnerships in the Glades area
  • Identify additional VITA site locations in the Glades area
  • Identify lead staff to oversee and ensure the sites run smoothly
  • Recruitment of volunteers
  • Identify volunteer recruitment locations such as colleges, businesses, high schools, other nonprofit and faith-based organizations and community and volunteer fairs
  • Connect with high schools to recruit greeter volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteer trainings to include sign-up, attendance at trainings, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed, including background check and testing
  • Coordinate site coordinators by ensuring volunteers are placed and assigned at site location and attending and volunteering at their assigned location and time
  • Identify locations for FAS Sites (Facilitated Self Assistance)
  • Assist with recognition event
  • Review and update marketing materials for upcoming season
  • Research and apply for additional funding to support the VITA program
