4 Ways to Shower PBC in Love

Make it Rain Kindness During National Volunteer Month

You know the saying: “April showers bring May flowers.” Well, that saying works for kindness too! April is National Volunteer Month, and we are celebrating the power of volunteering to be a flood of hope in PBC. Every hour you spend giving your time, talents, and treasure is like planting a seed that will bloom into help for neighbors across our community.

Last year, 8,058 United Way volunteers contributed 165,747 hours of volunteer work, even through the pandemic! This brought a value of over $4.1 million to our community and helped local seniors have enough to eat, provided kids with virtual mentorship, distributed PPE so nonprofits could continue to serve more clients than ever before, and helped deliver 100,000 vaccinations in PBC!

Research continues to show how beneficial volunteering can be for our well-being and our community, and for people of all ages! United Way offers a variety of ways you can shower our community in love and kindness this month!

What Kind of Volunteer Are You?

Choose your own kindness adventure today!

For the Outdoor Enthusiast: Gleaning

Spend a morning in the great outdoors picking fresh produce for our neighbors in need. Our partners at CROS Ministries rely on volunteers to glean fresh tomatoes, peppers, and mangoes from local fields that would typically be left behind. We have two dates to choose from: Thursday, April 22 or Saturday, April 24

For the Competitor: Virtual Volunteer Bingo

Invite your family, friends, or coworkers to a kindness challenge! We’ve put together a Virtual Volunteer Bingo card made up of small tasks that can make a huge difference for local nonprofits and our neighbors. From cleaning out your closets and bookshelf to picking up the phone and calling a friend, you can lead the charge in inspiring a giving spirit all across PBC! Complete 5 boxes in a row and send it back to our team for a chance to win a United Way swag bag and an Amazon gift card!

For the Host(ess) with the Most(ess): Be a Vaccination Distribution Support Volunteer

If hospitality is your jam, volunteer with United Way at one of the County’s vaccination sites. Greet people as they arrive for their vaccine at locations across Palm Beach County. You’ll be spreading positivity and excitement with everyone you greet. Get in touch with our team today to register as a volunteer!

For the Teacher: Become a Mentor

No educational background needed to change a kid’s life in PBC! Bring your life experiences, challenges, and victories to the table and help guide a student along their path. Check out our Mentor Center and what it takes to become a mentor. We guarantee it will be an incredibly rewarding experience for you and your mentee.

If you want to check out more volunteer opportunities, including virtual activities, head to our Volunteer Center page.

No matter where you choose to spread kindness this month, you are investing in your personal health and the well-being of our community.

Go forth and make it rain kindness.
