Our Union Supporters

“The labor movement cannot tackle the problems of working people alone. To advance the common good in our communities, it is critical for us to work in partnership with effective local organizations who share our values. The United Way and the AFL-CIO share a common vision of prosperous, inclusive, diverse and safe communities, where every member of the community has access to a quality public education, fair wages, productive work opportunities and accessible, affordable, quality health care.”

Richard L. Trumka, President, AFL-CIO

Overview

Since 1946, United Way of Palm Beach County and the Unions of the Palm Beach-Treasure Coast have enjoyed a cooperative relationship through which they provide services to members of organized labor, their families and their communities through the AFL-CIO Community Services Program and the Labor Liaison. Union members represent skilled workers from across all industries, including both public and private sectors. They bring a wide variety of expertise and have the power to bring together community, government, and businesses to create and promote access to good job.

Working together, United Way and the AFL-CIO:

  • Assist workers and their families providing information and referrals to available local services and organizations, such as the 2-1-1 Helpline.
  • Educate and strengthen unions and the Central Labor Council through strategic partnerships involving apprenticeship, Union Community Activist Network (UCAN) and more.
  • Serve the community through a variety of fun and family friendly volunteer opportunities, community projects and fundraising campaigns.

History has shown union members are loyal contributors to United Way, volunteer at a higher rate than the general public and have a higher rate of repeat volunteerism.

United Way of Palm Beach County is proud to work with our local AFL-CIO Unions and make an impact in our community together!
