Financial Security

United Way believes everyone in our community should have access to the basics, including a safe and stable place to call home. Through our investments, hardworking Palm Beach County residents gain access to resources that help them make ends meet, creating a more sustainable future for themselves and their families.

Help individuals and families achieve housing stability

46% of Palm Beach County households do not earn enough to afford the basic cost of living. To combat the affordable housing crisis in our community, we support programs that provide swift intervention for households at risk of being evicted. We also invest in programs that provide permanent housing and support services for those experiencing chronic homelessness.

Provide individuals with financial stability through employment

Income and economic stability are tied to all aspects of health and overall well-being. We invest in programs that provide job coaching, hands-on training, and placement services to stabilize vulnerable populations and help them achieve financial security.

Make sure households keep more of what they earn

Filing your taxes can be an intimidating and expensive task. United Way’s Taxes Filed Free Initiative, conducted in partnership with the IRS, provides free tax preparation through our online MyFreeTaxes service or in-person Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This vital community resource allows residents to save on tax prep fees and receive deductions and credits they may not have known they were eligible for, like the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. The initiative returns millions of dollars back to the community each year leading to more money households can use on essentials like food, rent, gas and child care.

Support military veterans and their families

Veterans can find themselves underemployed, unable to access physical and mental health treatment, or struggling to maintain adequate housing. Through our MISSION UNITED initiative, we serve those who have served by ensuring veterans receive the support they need to lead fulfilling, healthy lives.
