The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is an invaluable service United Way of Palm Beach County has been providing to the community for more than 21 years. It offers services to individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes who are eligible for tax credits. The program has prepared more than 186,000 tax returns, yielding over $287 million in refunds and providing an estimated $428 million economic impact for Palm Beach County.
This year, we recruited, trained, and deployed 110 volunteers. Volunteer participation resulted in nearly 5,900 volunteer hours and an in-kind value in excess of $199,567.
Volunteers are the key to the VITA Program’s success.
Next tax season, we will be entering the program’s twenty-second year of service, United Way needs your help recruiting 200 volunteers! A commitment of four hours per week is required during tax season. We offer 16 VITA convenient site locations throughout Palm Beach County and a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Volunteering for the VITA Program is an extremely rewarding opportunity! No experience is required and there are opportunities that don’t involve preparing taxes.
All VITA volunteers will receive a background check upon completion of training and certification.
