How can artificial intelligence (AI) create new opportunities for hardworking families and help build a stronger, more financially stable community? That question was at the center of a discussion at the Securing Our Future Economic Mobility Summit, where our President & CEO Dr. Laurie George, moderated a panel exploring the role of AI in advancing economic mobility and expanding opportunities for ALICE families.
The panel, “AI & the Future of Economic Mobility: Transforming Opportunity for ALICE Families,” brought together leaders in technology, health care innovation, and higher education, including Phil Doherty of ServiceNow, Dan Cane, CEO of ModMed, and Ava Parker, J.D., President of Palm Beach State College.
The conversation examined how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are transforming the way people live and work, as well as the potential for these innovations to expand access to resources, strengthen workforce opportunities, and help families achieve greater financial stability.
ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE households represent hardworking individuals and families who earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic necessities, including housing, food, child care, transportation, and health care.
For these households, achieving financial stability can be challenging, even when family members are working. Access to education, career advancement, technology, and other essential resources can play an important role in creating pathways toward economic mobility.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and the workforce, it also presents opportunities to address barriers that prevent families from moving toward financial security.
Responsible AI innovation has the potential to improve access to information and services, support workforce development, create new learning opportunities, and help connect individuals with resources that can strengthen their economic well-being.
Bringing together perspectives from technology, health care, and higher education helped highlight why collaboration across industries is important as communities consider how to make these advancements accessible and beneficial to more people.
The pace of change driven by AI is unprecedented. We must work together to ensure that its benefits and opportunities reach everyone in our community, especially those who are most at risk of being left behind. Responsible innovation means creating a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
