3 Resources for Hurricane Preparedness

While we keep our eyes on the tropics, here are three community resources for prepping your household and business for this hurricane season (and any other disaster that may come our way).

United Way of Palm Beach County Resources.

Did you know United Way is the official Palm Beach County partner for organizing Volunteers and Donations during a crisis?

United Way of Palm Beach County and our Volunteer Center have a long history of promoting volunteerism in our community, and in preparing for and recovering from disasters.

Following the devastation of Hurricane Andrew, United Way’s Volunteer Center took a leadership role in the local response and recovery efforts. Shortly after, Palm Beach County government named United Way as the lead agency for serving as the community’s hub for volunteerism and donations.

United Way leads the Volunteer Reception Center, aka the check-in point, for any community member or group who wants to volunteer in the post-disaster recovery in our community. Our team is also responsible for organizing, tracking, consolidating, and distributing all donations that may come into Palm Beach County after a major disaster.

We’re ready to serve our community after a disaster strikes, but also in the preparation phase. We hosted a webinar to help nonprofits and local businesses prepare for a hurricane. From legal considerations to business continuity plans, be sure to check out that resource, found here!

It’s a big job, but our team is ready to be a Champion and a resource for our community before, during, and after a crisis.

Palm Beach County provides terrific information on how to be ready for anything hurricane season may spin our way: Make a Plan, Build a Kit, Know Your Zone, Know Your Home.   • Visit the County’s website for info on open shelters, gas stations, and grocery stores before, during, and after a hurricane.

• Emergency Help:
  • Call 911 if your household needs emergency assistance during a storm.
• Help After a Hurricane:
  • Our partners at the 211 Helpline are a great place for resources after a disaster. Call them 24/7/365 at 2-1-1 or text your zip code to 898211.
