National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers across the country.
This week, and all year long, United Way of Palm Beach County celebrates you: the true pillars of our community. In 2024, thousands of volunteers contributed over $8.4M in monetary value through volunteer efforts in Palm Beach County. From Boca Raton to Jupiter, from the gleaning fields to our boardroom, we showed our united front in ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the basics.
From April 20 thru 26, join us in celebrating your volunteer efforts and be a part of what makes our community great. We have several events from which to choose, even virtual opportunities.
We welcome you to join us as we celebrate you and show that United is the Way!
1. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
National Volunteer Week Kickoff and Literacy Kits Project
Spark a love of reading in children with our next Literacy Kit project! These interactive kits transform story time into a fun, hands-on adventure with engaging props and activities that make reading magical for both parents and kids. You’ll unleash your creativity while assembling these kits at our office, knowing that each one will inspire young minds in our community. Once completed, these kits will be shared with local children through United Way-funded agencies, making a lasting impact. Children eight and older are welcome!
2. Thursday, April 24, 2025 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Volunteer with us at the Palm Beach County Food Bank to sort and pack food items! You will be a Hunger Hero as the food you pack will be distributed to thousands of people in our community struggling to put food on the table. The minimum age to volunteer is 16.
3. Saturday, April 26, 2025 | 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Join us in partnership with CROS Ministries to be a Hunger Hero and make a difference during National Volunteer Week! We will be gleaning produce in the Boynton Beach/Delray Beach area. All the collected produce will be distributed to our neighbors in need and give them access to nutritious food. Specific location information will be provided during the week of the volunteer project. Please wear closed-toe shoes, comfy clothes, a hat/sunscreen, and a mask. The location will be finalized a week before the event. Volunteers will be sent an email with specific directions a few days before the event.
United Way of Palm Beach County offers creative virtual options, like decorating a Star of Hope to inspire others, making bookmarks to promote literacy, or playing Volunteer Bingo to complete impactful tasks. These opportunities allow you to make a difference remotely while staying connected to your community. Virtual volunteer documents must be submitted to volunteer@unitedwaypbc.org.
5. Custom Project
If none of the above options work for you and you have a group that wants to come together in another manner, we host year-round volunteer opportunities and can create a custom volunteer project for you. We will connect you with a meaningful volunteer opportunity to rally your team around a great cause and greatly assist local nonprofits. Contact us for more information!
