United Way of Palm Beach County, in collaboration with Bank of America and the Palm Beach County Food Bank, hosted a monumental volunteer event aimed at addressing food insecurity among families and children in Palm Beach County. The event brought together 600 enthusiastic Bank of America volunteers to pack 5,000 backpacks filled with nutritious meals and books for children in need.
The event, held at The Boca Raton, marked a significant effort to support the Weekend Backpack Program, an initiative designed to provide essential nutrition to children over the weekend and during the critical summer months when access to school meal programs are limited. These backpacks will be distributed to food-insecure children through more than 40 partner agency sites across Palm Beach County.
Bank of America has been a longstanding supporter of United Way of Palm Beach County through corporate grants and volunteerism. Collaborative efforts like this play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity throughout the community. More than 132,000 residents in Palm Beach County struggle with hunger. 37,350 of these residents are children who do not have enough to eat on a daily basis.
“Families are really struggling right now,” said Dr. Laurie George, president and CEO of United Way of Palm Beach County. “We’re all going to the grocery store and seeing the price increase across goods. Being able to provide students and their families with healthy and nutritious food over the weekend and throughout the summer helps remove uncertainty and alleviates stress.”
The volunteer event hosted by United Way of Palm Beach County, in collaboration with Bank of America and the Palm Beach County Food Bank, exemplifies the power of collective action in addressing critical issues facing our community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
