Mentoring Initiative Manager

Position Summary

The Mentoring Initiative Manager will lead the activities of the Mentoring Initiative, which is committed to the advancement of quality mentoring programs within Palm Beach County for youth involved with or at risk of entering the Juvenile Justice and/or Dependency system(s). The position will report to the Associate Vice President of Mentoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop the appropriate networks of stakeholders within the community in order to develop relationships necessary to collaboratively identify and develop recruitment strategies for mentors
  • Develop tools and resources for the recruitment of mentors, and coordinate recruitment events within targeted geographic regions and among demographically diverse populations
  • Provide technical assistance to contracted agencies for youth and family engagement activities
  • Manage inquiries and referral process of youth into contracted agencies or another appropriate referral source
  • Facilitate regular meetings with the contracted agencies to discuss any issues and best practices
  • Create, facilitate, and ensure trainings are offered to contracted agencies, parents/guardians, mentors, mentees, and other organizations to ensure consistency throughout program delivery
  • Establish and maintain databases and appropriate documentation to help inform the development of appropriate strategies and program implementation
  • Work closely with and act as a liaison with Circuit 15 Juvenile Justice Department, PBC Court Administration, School District, Department of Children and Families, ChildNet and nonprofit agencies on referrals of youth to a mentor or to other appropriate services and resources
  • Assist in the facilitation of the competitive application process for investments in the mentoring focus area:
    • Assist in the development of the application and other related documents
    • Assist with the volunteer review and allocation recommendation process
  • Measure, communicate, and learn from the impact of our efforts:
    • Manage adherence to United Way, Children’s Services Council, and Palm Beach County Youth Services Department policies and standards, including subcontracts and 3-party agreement
    • Monitor the outcome evaluation process and provide consultative support
    • Prepare contract-related (and other) documentation and related reports
    • Work collaboratively with other departments to communicate the impact of United Way, Palm Beach County Youth Services Department, and Children’s Services Council investments to corporate and individual donors as well as to the broader community
  • Assist as assigned with the organization’s disaster response efforts
  • Perform other duties as opportunities are presented and/or assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree (social science, business, or liberal arts preferred)
  • Minimum five years related experience in the human service and/or juvenile justice and dependency field with program development, administration, fiscal oversight, and comfort in collaborating with leaders, preferred
  • Experience working in a team environment, managing/facilitating effective groups, developing collaborations, and working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of program evaluation methodologies, outcome measurement practices, analyzing data, and using data to inform and improve program performance and outcomes
  • Ability to travel domestically (e.g., National Mentoring Summit and MentorCon) and throughout Palm Beach County
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, implementing and completing projects within stated timelines
  • Demonstration of outstanding interpersonal, meeting facilitation, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, think strategically, and effectively solve problems
    Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
