We need your help for a Nuclear Power Plant Field Drill Volunteer Activity!

The Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management is conducting a routine field drill. Volunteer actors are needed to play the role of evacuees, specifically evacuees who would be leaving their homes and businesses in other counties during a nuclear power plant emergency.

Who is needed?
We seek adult volunteers with privately owned or agency vehicles, capable of walking one half (1/2) mile.

What needs to be done?

The volunteers will:

  • drive their cars through a water rinse station
  • exit their vehicles and get registered by deputies
  • get monitored for simulated radioactive contamination
  • simulate technical decontamination techniques
  • simulate participation in public health field actions
  • ride on Palm Tran busses between field stations
  • provide feedback to exercise designers & controllers

Volunteer check-in begins at 10:45 am, the safety briefing begins as 11:15 am, field drill operations begin between 11:30 am & noon and will last until approximately 3:00pm if not earlier.

Those participating will get a Division of Emergency Management certificate of participation and the satisfaction of helping improve the county’s response capabilities for a nuclear power plant emergency.
